New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The Supreme Court has directed authorities to ensure that metro trains and other railway services are not completely suspended ahead of the protests scheduled for October 10. The court called for transport operations to continue under appropriate regulations, balancing security requirements with the need to minimise disruption to commuters.
Emphasising the importance of proportionality, the Supreme Court also instructed authorities to publicise their decision extensively so that passengers are informed about the arrangements in advance.
The directions aim to prevent unnecessary inconvenience to the public while allowing authorities to implement suitable measures in view of the planned demonstrations. Rather than imposing a blanket suspension of services, the court has called for a regulated approach to managing railway and metro operations.
The court’s observations underline the need to strike a balance between maintaining public order and ensuring that essential transport facilities remain accessible. Authorities have been asked to communicate the arrangements widely to help commuters plan their journeys and avoid confusion.
With the protests scheduled for October 10, the directions are intended to ensure that transport services continue in an appropriately managed manner without imposing a complete halt on metro and railway movement.
