Ahmedabad (Gurpreet Singh): The investigation into the killing of Punjabi influencer and makeup artist Mad Sandhu has taken a significant turn with the Ahmedabad Crime Branch arresting a man suspected of carrying out the shooting, police said on Thursday.
The accused has been identified as Parminder Kaka, also known as Parminder Prasad. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime, Ajit Rajian, investigators suspect that he was linked to the Goldy Dhillon gang and played a direct role in the attack.
Police allege that Parminder was the person who opened fire on Sandhu and also helped arrange the motorcycle used during the crime.
Sandhu was killed on October 3 in the Loharka Road area of Amritsar. Police said two men travelling on a motorcycle targeted the influencer before fleeing the scene.
The latest arrest is expected to help investigators piece together the sequence of events surrounding the shooting and identify other individuals who may have been involved. Police officials said additional information about the arrest and the ongoing investigation would be provided at a press conference.
Sandhu had built a sizeable following through his work on social media, particularly for content related to makeup artistry and discussions around gender issues. He appeared on podcasts and other digital platforms, where he spoke about his experiences and interests.
His online presence also attracted criticism from sections of social media users, particularly over his fashion choices and the nature of his content. Months before his death, a Nihang Sikh had publicly objected to some of Sandhu’s videos and clothing, expressing concern about their influence on young people.
Despite the controversy surrounding some of his online content, Sandhu had established himself as a recognised personality in the Punjabi digital space. His Instagram account had more than 2.2 lakh followers, and he had also appeared as an actor in the Punjabi film Oye Bhole Oye.
The arrest of the alleged shooter marks a new development in a case that has drawn attention across Punjab’s social media and entertainment circles. Investigators are now expected to focus on establishing the wider conspiracy behind the killing and determining the roles of others connected to the attack. :::
