Ludhiana (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant operation against organised crime, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, working jointly with the Commissionerate Police, Ludhiana, has arrested two alleged associates of a gangster network and recovered a Glock 9mm pistol along with 20 live cartridges from their possession.
According to the preliminary investigation, the arrested suspects were allegedly in contact with handlers based abroad. Police officials said the duo had been assigned a target in the Chandigarh-Mohali area and were allegedly preparing to carry out a firing incident linked to an extortion bid.
The arrests are believed to have disrupted the alleged plan before the suspects could execute the attack. The recovery of the firearm and ammunition has also provided investigators with important leads as they probe the wider network and its links with overseas handlers.
An FIR has been registered at Police Station Division No. 8 in Ludhiana. Police are now carrying out further investigation to establish the identities of other persons involved, determine the intended target and ascertain the extent of the network’s activities.
The Punjab Police said the operation reflects its continued efforts to identify and dismantle gangster networks, disrupt organised criminal activities and prevent violent incidents in the state.
