Multiple Explosions Reported Near Tanker Off Yemen Coast, Crew Safe

Yemen (Rajeev Sharma): Several explosions were reported in the vicinity of a tanker sailing off Yemen on Sunday, prompting a maritime security alert and renewed concerns over the safety of vessels operating in the region.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said the incident took place around 60 nautical miles south of the port city of Mokha.

According to the agency, the tanker’s company security officer reported witnessing a number of explosions close to the vessel. The blasts were described as occurring in the surrounding waters, although no details were immediately available on their source or whether the ship itself was targeted.

Crew Reported Safe

UKMTO said all crew members were safe following the incident. There were also no reports of pollution or other environmental damage linked to the explosions.

The agency has not released the name of the tanker or provided information about its ownership. It also did not say whether the incident was connected to the wider conflict in Yemen.

Authorities are now assessing what happened and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosions.

Ships Advised to Remain Alert

UKMTO urged commercial vessels travelling through the area to maintain heightened caution. Ships operating near Yemen’s coastline have been advised to remain vigilant and notify maritime authorities if they observe anything suspicious.

The latest report comes amid continuing security concerns around shipping routes near Yemen, where maritime traffic has faced heightened risks during the broader regional conflict.

At this stage, officials have not confirmed the cause of the explosions, the type of incident involved or whether any vessel sustained damage. Further information is expected as authorities continue their investigation.
