Sonipat (Balwinder Singh): A joint team of the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Haryana STF arrested wanted criminal Rohit Dahiya alias Buda following a brief exchange of fire near Chhatera village in Sonipat, officials said.
The operation was carried out by personnel from the Delhi Police Crime Branch’s NDR, R.K. Puram unit, along with the Haryana STF team based in Sonipat. Acting on specific intelligence about Dahiya’s movements, the teams intercepted him while he was travelling on a motorcycle.
According to police, officers signalled the suspect to stop. Instead, Dahiya allegedly opened fire at the police team. The officers then returned fire in self-defence, leading to a short gunfight.
The accused sustained bullet injuries to both legs during the exchange. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Wanted in five criminal cases
Police said Dahiya was among the wanted and rewarded criminals being pursued by law enforcement agencies. He is allegedly linked to five cases registered in Haryana’s Sonipat and Bhiwani districts.
The cases include allegations of murder, extortion and firing, according to police.
Following his arrest, investigators are expected to question Dahiya regarding the cases in which he is wanted and examine his alleged criminal activities and connections.
The joint operation marks another action by the Delhi Police Crime Branch and Haryana STF against wanted offenders operating in the region. Further investigation into the cases and the circumstances surrounding the encounter is underway.
