Chandigarh (Naval Kishore): Chandigarh has been honoured as the Best Performing Union Territory for the linking of digital health records in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (UAAMs) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The national recognition was presented during the annual Aarogya Manthan conference held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, celebrating the milestone achievements of eight years of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY and five years of ABDM.
Dr. Suman Singh, Director of Health Services for Chandigarh, accepted the award on behalf of the administration from Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare J.P. Nadda. The ceremony drew healthcare leaders, public health administrators, and government delegates from across the country to assess ongoing technological modernization in public medical delivery. Nadda commended the award winners while reiterating the federal government’s focus on expanding digitally integrated, equitable healthcare to vulnerable populations.
The administration achieved the top ranking through sustained inter-departmental collaboration under the guidance of Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, alongside Health Secretary Mandip Singh Brar. Local health centres and clinical facilities accelerated the integration of citizen records with individual Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA), creating a seamless and secure digital network that allows medical histories to follow patients across treatment centres without paperwork bottlenecks.
Officials credited the dedication of frontline healthcare workers, hospital medical personnel, and the local ABDM implementation unit for driving grassroots compliance across neighbourhood clinics. The Chandigarh Health Department reaffirmed its objective of expanding the digital health infrastructure citywide, ensuring transparent medical record management and enhancing overall clinical efficiency for all residents.
