Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a Rs 50 lakh cash reward for rower Satnam Singh after he helped India secure a bronze medal at the Asian Games.
Satnam Singh and his teammate Salman Khan finished third in the men’s double sculls rowing final at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The Indian pair clocked 6:13.25 to claim the bronze, adding a historic medal to India’s rowing campaign.
CM Mann congratulated the two athletes in a post on X, praising their performance and acknowledging the pride their achievement has brought to Punjab and the country.
The Chief Minister said Satnam would be honoured with Rs 50 lakh under the Punjab government’s sports policy. He also extended his congratulations to the athletes’ families and described their success as a source of encouragement for youngsters pursuing sport.
The medal holds particular significance for Indian rowing as Satnam and Salman became the first Indian pair to win a medal in the men’s double sculls category at the Asian Games.
For Satnam, the podium finish also adds to his growing record at the continental event. The Punjab athlete had previously been part of India’s bronze-medal-winning men’s quadruple sculls team at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
