New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): The Delhi government has taken strict action following the tragic building collapse incident in Satya Niketan, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announcing the suspension of five Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials and the arrest of the building owner.
In a post on social media, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the MCD Deputy Commissioner, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer concerned have been suspended with immediate effect in connection with the incident.
The building owner has also been arrested as authorities intensify action following the collapse.
The Chief Minister further announced that immediate sealing of buildings having unauthorised fifth floors has been ordered across Delhi. Authorities have also been directed to conduct thorough inspections of nearby paying guest (PG) accommodations and other buildings in the area.
Gupta said strict action, including sealing of properties, would be taken wherever violations of building norms are found. She stressed that the Delhi government was treating the matter with the utmost seriousness.
“Anyone found guilty or responsible will not be spared,” the Chief Minister said, underlining the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards violations that could endanger public safety.
The government’s latest measures are aimed at identifying unauthorised constructions and ensuring that buildings in the vicinity comply with safety and construction regulations. The inspections are also expected to help authorities identify potential risks and prevent similar incidents in the future.
