Amritsar Rural Police Bust Cross-Border Smuggling Network, Two Held With 15 Pistols and 5 Kg Heroin
Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Amritsar Rural Police have claimed a significant success in their ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal weapons, with the arrest of two alleged members of a cross-border smuggling network and the recovery of 15 illegal pistols and 5 kg of heroin.
According to officials, the operation has exposed a suspected network with links extending beyond India. Preliminary investigation indicates that the arrested individuals were allegedly in touch with handlers based abroad and were receiving consignments of narcotics and firearms before moving them onward as instructed.
Foreign-based handlers under scanner
Investigators are now focusing on the suspected communication and supply chain connecting the accused with their alleged overseas handlers. Police are examining how the consignments reached the accused, where the weapons and narcotics were intended to be delivered and whether additional members were involved in the operation.
The seizure of 15 pistols along with a substantial quantity of heroin is expected to provide investigators with important leads as they work to trace the wider network.
FIR registered under NDPS and Arms Acts
An FIR has been registered at Gharinda Police Station under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act.
Police said the investigation is continuing, with efforts underway to establish both the forward and backward linkages of the alleged network. Investigators are also expected to identify other individuals who may have played a role in arranging, transporting or distributing the illegal consignments.
Probe to focus on wider trafficking network
The latest seizure comes amid intensified action by Punjab law enforcement agencies against the movement of narcotics and illegal firearms, particularly in the state’s border districts. Authorities are attempting to move beyond individual arrests by tracing the larger supply chains and identifying those coordinating such operations.
The Amritsar Rural Police said the investigation will continue until the broader network and its connections are fully established. The operation is being viewed as another step in efforts to disrupt the flow of drugs and illegal weapons through the region.
