The 56-year-old legislator from Giridih had been rushed to a private medical facility late Saturday evening after experiencing acute physical distress, where he succumbed during emergency treatment at roughly 4:00 AM. Kumar held an extensive portfolio of ministerial duties, steering Higher and Technical Education, Urban Development, Tourism, Arts and Culture, alongside Sports and Youth Affairs, and leaves behind his wife, two daughters, and a son.
Mourning the profound personal and political loss, Chief Minister Hemant Soren remembered Kumar as a guiding figure and an elder brother who remained a dependable pillar of strength through turbulent phases. Soren pointed to Kumar’s deep-rooted involvement in the Jharkhand statehood struggle alongside JMM patriarch Shibu Soren, praising his untiring commitment to the region’s cultural heritage and public rights. Legislative Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato joined political figures from across party lines in paying tribute, while the ruling JMM declared his passing an irreplaceable setback for the administration and the wider state.
Having entered the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in 2019 after securing victory in Giridih, Kumar developed into an indispensable strategist and crisis manager for the ruling party, playing an instrumental role in maintaining organizational stability during pivotal political upheavals. His administrative efforts remained active until his final days; he had just concluded an official tour of Karnataka earlier in the week, where he held discussions with state leaders on advancing eco-tourism strategies and forming technical collaborations to enhance resort infrastructure across prominent tourist corridors in Jharkhand.
