New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The Supreme Court of India is set to host the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum from September 4 to 6, gathering chief justices, court presidents, and senior judicial authorities from BRICS member nations and partner states. The international summit aims to establish a shared framework for institutional dialogue and cooperation on pressing contemporary issues, including global dispute settlement, technological transformation, sustainable development, and modern judicial administration.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant will open the three-day forum by conducting bilateral discussions with visiting judicial leaders. The scheduled talks will include the heads of judicial delegations from ten partner and member states: Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran, and Uzbekistan. According to an official statement from the Supreme Court, these bilateral sessions will provide a direct platform to exchange perspectives on matters of mutual legal interest and build stronger institutional ties across participating court systems.
The formal working sessions of the summit will concentrate on four key thematic areas:
- Mediation and International Commercial Disputes: Examining non-adversarial conflict resolution as an effective mechanism for resolving cross-border commercial litigation within an interconnected global market.
- Cross-Border Enforcement of Arbitral Awards: Evaluating procedural bottlenecks and identifying pathways toward broader jurisdictional and procedural harmonisation.
- Artificial Intelligence and the Judiciary: Analyzing the integration of emerging technologies and algorithmic tools in reforming judicial administration and case management.
- Judicial Leadership and Sustainable Development: Assessing the responsibility of legal institutions in environmental governance, climate jurisprudence, and the transition toward sustainable energy.
The conference is anticipated to deepen multilateral cooperation, encourage the sharing of legal best practices, and lay groundwork for ongoing collaboration among BRICS courts on evolving international legal questions.
