Central Alberta (Rajeev Sharma): Motorists travelling between Tofield and Fort Saskatchewan on September 4 should expect slower traffic and possible delays as an exceptionally large and heavy load is transported along several major roads.
The movement is scheduled to begin early in the morning, with the load departing from Dacro in Tofield at around 4:30 a.m. Because of its size and weight, the vehicle will travel at a maximum speed of 50 km/h and is expected to move below the normal posted speed limits.
Guide vehicles will accompany the load throughout the journey. Due to the width required for the operation, the convoy will occupy the full width of the highway, including the shoulder, meaning other road users may experience significant delays while it passes.
Route for September 4
The oversized load will begin its journey from 6204 46 Avenue in Tofield and follow a designated route towards its destination.
The planned route is:
- Exit from 6204 46 Avenue, Tofield
- Airport Road eastbound
- 46 Avenue southbound
- Highway 14 eastbound
- Highway 834 northbound
- Highway 15 westbound
- Range Road 220 northbound
- Turn west into the DOW site
The load is expected to reach the site at approximately 2 p.m.
Drivers Advised to Plan Ahead
The slow-moving nature of the transportation operation means motorists along the route could encounter reduced speeds, temporary congestion and difficulty passing the load.
Drivers using the affected roads have been advised to allow additional travel time and exercise caution around the convoy. Motorists should also follow directions from guide vehicles and any traffic-control personnel accompanying the movement.
The transportation is part of a planned heavy-load movement, with the route and timing arranged to accommodate the unusually large cargo while limiting disruption to regular traffic as much as possible.
