AAP Slams BJP and Congress Over Double Standards on 1984 Riots Convict Sajjan Kumar

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday tore into the Congress and the BJP, saying that despite their political differences, both parties have displayed the same attitude towards minorities, particularly the Sikh community, and have completely failed to understand the pain of the victims of the 1984 Sikh massacre.

Inavideo message,AAP Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu pointed out, “Everyone saw the reaction of Congress leaders after the death of Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted by a court in the 1984 Sikh massacre case. Congress leader Deepinder Hooda even called Sajjan Kumar his ‘ideal’, although he later backtracked on the statement.”

He said that at the time, the BJP had strongly criticised Deepinder Hooda and the Congress over the remark. However, Pannu said, the BJP’s own conduct has now exposed its double standards. “Now the real face of the BJP has also come to the fore. On the occasion of Sajjan Kumar’s ‘Sharddhanjali Sabha’ (condolence meeting), three BJP Members of Parliament were present. These included West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, South Delhi MP Rambir Singh Bidhuri and North-West Delhi MP Yogender Chandolia,” he said.

Baltej Pannu questioned the BJP leaders’ priorities, pointing out that they had not stood with the Sikh families who were displaced during the 1984 massacre. “These are the same people who never went to the members of the Sikh community displaced in 1984, or visited their families to share their grief. But they have great sorrow over the death of Sajjan Kumar, who was convicted by a court,” he said.

He said the conduct of both the Congress and BJP demonstrated that neither party had genuinely understood the suffering of the Sikh community and the families who continue to carry the pain of 1984. “Whether it is the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party, the conduct of both parties towards minorities has remained the same,” Baltej Pannu said.
