Basti (Gurpreet Singh): A 50-year-old man was killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district on Friday after objecting to his daughter’s romantic involvement, police officials announced on Sunday. The incident occurred in Ramwapur Tiwari village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Dubaulia police station.
The victim, identified as Krishna, had consistently expressed disapproval of the relationship and was working to arrange his daughter’s marriage to someone else. The dispute turned violent when Krishna spotted the pair meeting near a local irrigation canal and confronted them with a wooden stick. The couple overpowered him, took control of the implement, and repeatedly struck him with an attached sickle blade before leaving him unconscious at the scene.
Relatives launched a search late Friday night when Krishna failed to return home, subsequently discovering him with severe trauma near the waterway. Based on a formal complaint submitted by the victim’s brother, Kashiram, police filed a First Information Report and placed both the daughter and her partner under arrest. Basti Superintendent of Police Yashveer Singh confirmed that the motive behind the fatal assault stemmed from the family dispute over the relationship.
