Gurugram (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana Police has initiated major disciplinary action after a security breach during Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s visit to Gurugram led to a disruption involving his convoy.
Following the incident on Friday, Gurugram Police Commissioner Sibash Kabiraj ordered the suspension of 18 personnel, holding officials responsible for lapses in the arrangements made for the Chief Minister’s movement.
Among those suspended are the Station House Officer of the Civil Lines police station and the security officer responsible for the western zone. Other personnel deployed for security duties at the time have also been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
The Commissioner has additionally issued show-cause notices to two senior officers — the DCP, West, and the DCP, Crime — seeking explanations over the reported lapse.
According to police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar, responsibility has been assigned at different levels following an assessment of the security arrangements. A departmental inquiry has also been initiated against an Intelligence Officer in connection with the incident.
The security breach came to light when Congress workers protesting during the Chief Minister’s Gurugram visit displayed black flags and tried to obstruct his convoy. Police detained and arrested eight protesters following the confrontation.
The incident has prompted the Gurugram Police leadership to underline the importance of coordination during VIP movements. Officials have made it clear that any failure arising from negligence, poor communication or inadequate deployment will invite departmental action.
Police authorities said security arrangements for VIP visits must be implemented with strict coordination among all units. Any future lapse will be examined and responsibility fixed according to established rules.
The action against the personnel comes as the police department reviews the circumstances that allowed protesters to approach and disrupt the Chief Minister’s convoy despite the security deployment in place.
