New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das has approached the Delhi High Court, instituting a ₹2-crore civil suit against political commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra and several media organizations for allegedly breaching his privacy. The legal action contends that the defendants unlawfully broadcast his residential address and other confidential details into the public domain, exposing him and his family to potential threats.
The lawsuit names Mitra alongside a legal news portal, a digital media outlet, and social media accounts linked to another publication. According to the petition, Das has resided in a rented residence in Greater Kailash since early 2025. He alleged that media personnel unlawfully entered the property without consent, recorded footage of the private interior spaces, and shared the clip on social media on August 5, where it amassed more than 2.1 million views before being recirculated on August 10.
Das further stated that Mitra disclosed private particulars regarding the accommodation during a programme hosted by the legal news portal, identifying a neighbour and erroneously alleging that the monthly rent totalled roughly ₹7 lakh. The petition noted that Mitra subsequently published multiple social media posts reiterating the alleged personal data.
In addition to financial damages, the suit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent the defendants from continuing to distribute or publish content regarding Das’s home, alongside directions for the immediate removal of the offending videos and online posts. Das submitted that the repeated dissemination of his residential location, especially given prior security threats, significantly amplifies the risk of harassment, intimidation, and physical harm from hostile individuals.
