Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab is likely to witness another spell of monsoon rain on Thursday, with showers forecast across the state and cloudy conditions expected to persist in Chandigarh. The continuing rainfall has brought a marginal decline in temperatures, offering some relief from the prevailing warmth.
The weather department has predicted light to moderate rain in various parts of Punjab. Chandigarh is expected to remain partly cloudy, while isolated spells of rain accompanied by thunder and lightning cannot be ruled out.
Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar and Mohali are among the areas likely to receive light to moderate showers. Rain is also possible at isolated places in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
Southern and southwestern districts, including Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda and Mansa, may also receive light to moderate rainfall during the day.
The active monsoon conditions are being influenced by the position of the monsoon trough, which is currently extending through Ferozepur and other parts of northern India. The prevailing system is supporting cloud development and intermittent showers across the region.
Rainfall measurements recorded on August 19 showed Ropar receiving the highest amount in the state. Ropar KVK registered 8 mm between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Bhakra Dam received 4 mm, while Ludhiana and Pathankot KVK recorded 3.4 mm and 3 mm respectively.
Chandigarh received 0.5 mm during the observation period. Several other stations, including Ferozepur, Amritsar, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Mohali and Sangrur, reported no rainfall.
The maximum temperature across Punjab also eased by 0.7 degrees Celsius following the recent rain. Bathinda remained the hottest location, recording 35.8 degrees Celsius.
With the monsoon continuing to remain active, residents across Punjab and Chandigarh can expect generally cloudy skies and intermittent showers, with thunderstorms possible in some locations.
