London (Rajeev Sharma): British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Indian-origin corporate strategist and former BBC executive Gautam Rangarajan as Expert Advisor on Structure and Process at 10 Downing Street. The newly created role will see Rangarajan leading organizational transformation and structural alignment at the central level of the UK government.
The appointment comes as Prime Minister Burnham implements a series of administrative realignments following his election as Labour Party leader and Prime Minister last month. As part of his broader regional devolution agenda, Burnham established “No. 10 North” in Manchester alongside a reorganized Office for the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) to house core operational units serving the center of government.
Rangarajan brings over two decades of experience across public service broadcasting, media, and corporate strategy. With a background in leading large-scale organizational change, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and handling high-stakes financial and policy negotiations, he is expected to play a central role in executing structural reforms across Whitehall departments.
In addition to his administrative realignment efforts, Prime Minister Burnham has initiated a nationwide tour to introduce cost-of-living measures while overseeing emergency response mechanisms, including recent COBRA meetings convened to address severe summer heatwaves and drought conditions across the United Kingdom.
