Chamba Bus Accident: Seven Dead, 15 Injured After Private Bus Overturns on Tissa-Bairagarh Road

Chamba (Rajeev Sharma): At least seven people were killed and 15 others injured after a private passenger bus overturned near Chalunj bend on the Tissa-Bairagarh road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Thursday morning.

The bus, operated by Sharma Coach, was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba when the accident occurred shortly after 7 am. Police said the vehicle overturned at the bend and eventually came to rest on the road below.

Rescue operation launched

The accident sparked panic in the area, with passengers reportedly trapped inside the overturned vehicle. After being alerted, police and local residents reached the location and began rescue efforts.

The injured were taken to Tissa Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Chamba SP Vijay Kumar Saklani confirmed that the bus had started its journey from Bairagarh at around 7 am. Officials are continuing to gather information about the accident.

Around 25 passengers were reportedly on board

Initial information suggests that nearly 25 people were travelling in the bus. However, authorities are still verifying the exact passenger count because of the difficult terrain and poor connectivity in the remote area.

The administration has sent additional personnel towards the accident site to assist with rescue and relief work.

Death toll could change

Officials cautioned that the casualty figures are preliminary and may be revised once the rescue operation and verification process are completed.

The precise circumstances that caused the bus to overturn have not yet been established. Police are expected to investigate the accident after completing the immediate rescue operation and collecting details from passengers and witnesses.
