Fort McMurray (Rajeev Sharma): Motorists travelling through Fort McMurray should prepare for traffic disruptions as a major paving project on Highway 63 is set to begin on August 3.
According to officials, construction work will be carried out daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. along a 10-kilometre stretch of Highway 63, extending from Beacon Hill Drive to north of the Confederation Way interchange in both directions.
To facilitate the resurfacing work, traffic management measures, including alternating lane closures and single-lane alternating traffic, will be in effect throughout the construction period. Commuters are likely to experience delays and are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
The paving project is expected to continue for approximately two weeks, subject to weather and construction conditions.
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution while passing through the work zone by following posted traffic signs, obeying reduced speed limits and remaining alert for construction crews and equipment.
The infrastructure upgrade is aimed at improving road conditions and ensuring safer travel for motorists using one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors. Officials have requested public cooperation throughout the duration of the project to help ensure the safety of both workers and road users.
