New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Education Minister Murli Manohar Joshi urged the government to handle the ongoing student demonstrations in New Delhi with empathy rather than viewing the agitation as a routine law and order problem. In a statement posted on social media, the 92-year-old leader marked the first instance of a senior ruling party figure speaking publicly against the police handling of the demonstrations led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.
Joshi emphasized that the concerns raised by students regarding the national examination system and paper leaks are genuine and require structural solutions. Reflecting on the prolonged sit-in and the recent police actions during the July 20 march toward Parliament, the Margdarshak Mandal member expressed deep anguish over reports of physical force used against demonstrators, noting that it was particularly distressing to witness young women being mishandled by law enforcement personnel.
Warning against coercive measures, the former Union Minister cautioned that relying on administrative crackdowns could alienate young citizens from broader national development goals, including the vision of Viksit Bharat. He urged central authorities and law enforcement to engage in meaningful dialogue, advocating for a compassionate approach that prioritizes the welfare, trust, and future security of the country’s youth.
