New Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Efforts to break the deadlock between the administration and protesters appear to be gathering pace after officials reached out to initiate discussions, according to Climate Justice Party (CJP) Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das. While welcoming the move, Das said the protesters are still waiting for a definitive response from the government before formal negotiations can begin.
Addressing the media, Das said the group has sought dialogue since the protest began and remains prepared to engage in meaningful discussions. He added that although the administration’s outreach came after a considerable delay, the protesters have responded positively.
“We have consistently appealed for talks from the beginning of the movement. The administration has now made an effort to establish communication, and we have expressed our willingness to participate. However, we are yet to receive a clear position from the government. The next course of action depends on their response,” Das said.
Providing an update on activist Sonam Wangchuk, Das said he continues his hunger strike and that his health remains stable. He noted that Wangchuk has extended his support and encouragement to the young people participating in the ongoing agitation.
According to Das, the protest has remained peaceful over the past month, with demonstrators continuing to press their demands through non-violent means. He said another peaceful march is expected to be organised soon, underscoring the movement’s commitment to democratic methods of protest.
The administration’s outreach has raised hopes of possible discussions between both sides, though officials have not yet announced when or if formal talks will begin. Protesters say they remain committed to dialogue while awaiting further communication from the government.
