Telangana (Rajeev Sharma): A Telangana Police sub-inspector is facing suspension and departmental proceedings after a video allegedly showing his young granddaughter behind the wheel of a car went viral on social media. The incident has also resulted in a criminal case being registered over permitting a minor to drive.

The Cyberabad Traffic Police said the matter pertains to the Narsingi Police Station area, where the child, reportedly around six-and-a-half years old, was seen driving a vehicle while an adult accompanied her. After the footage surfaced online, police initiated legal action against the guardian responsible for allowing the child to operate the vehicle.

Officials confirmed that a case has been registered against Pujari Thirupathi under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 180 and 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. These provisions deal with permitting an unauthorised person to drive and driving in a manner considered dangerous. The investigation is currently underway.

Reacting to the controversy, Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand directed the Cyberabad Police Commissioner to suspend the sub-inspector with immediate effect. He also ordered a departmental inquiry to examine the officer’s conduct and determine whether disciplinary action beyond suspension is warranted.

Senior police officials stressed that traffic laws apply equally to everyone and that allowing a child to drive poses a serious threat to road safety. They reiterated that strict action would be taken in cases where minors are found operating motor vehicles.

The incident has triggered widespread criticism on social media, with many users expressing concern over the message such acts send when they involve members of the police force. Authorities have maintained that both the criminal investigation and the internal disciplinary proceedings will continue independently before a final decision is taken.
