Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Sh. A. Sreenivas has appealed to all citizens of the State to extend full cooperation to Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and election staff during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
He said that Booth Level Officers and election personnel are carrying out door-to-door distribution and collection of enumeration forms. In view of this, all electors are requested to extend full cooperation to the officers and staff during the course of this exercise. Any obstruction to election-related work, any act of misbehaviour with government employees, or any attempt to disturb law and order will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Such cases will invite strict legal action as per the applicable legal provisions, said Sh. A. Sreenivas.
He said that the participation of every eligible citizen and the maintenance of a clean, accurate and updated electoral roll are of paramount importance in strengthening democracy. He said that July 14 is the last date for submitting the enumeration forms. He urged all electors to submit their SIR forms to their respective Booth Level Officers well before the deadline.
The Chief Electoral Officer said that on July 10, an incident came to the notice of the Election Commission in which, during election-related work at Booth No. 73 in Nathusari Chopta village of the Ellenabad Assembly Constituency, certain individuals allegedly misbehaved with the Booth Level Officer and the BLO’s assistant who were on official election duty, and obstructed them in the discharge of their official functions.
He said that immediately upon receiving information about the incident, the district election administration and the police took prompt action and registered a case in connection with the incident under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police have arrested one accused, and further action is being taken in accordance with the law.
