25 Kg Heroin Seized in Amritsar, Three Held as Punjab Police Bust Cross-Border Drug Network

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Amritsar has busted a major narcotics smuggling network and arrested three alleged drug traffickers, recovering 25 kilograms of heroin from their possession.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Tuesday that the arrested accused have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, Ravi Kumar and Vishal Singh. Police also seized a Hyundai Verna car that was allegedly being used to transport the contraband.
The operation was carried out as part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing campaign to eliminate drug trafficking in the state under the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
According to the DGP, preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused were working at the behest of a cross-border smuggler based abroad. Their role was to collect heroin consignments dropped at designated locations and distribute them across different parts of Punjab.
The breakthrough came after the Counter Intelligence unit received specific inputs about a major drug consignment being delivered near Gill village on Mehta Road. Acting on the intelligence, police teams set up checkpoints and intercepted the suspects near the local Dana Mandi. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 25 kilograms of heroin.
The seizure comes a day after the same Counter Intelligence unit recovered 13 kilograms of heroin in two separate operations, dealing another blow to narcotics smuggling networks operating in the state.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the State Special Operation Cell Police Station in Amritsar. Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend other members of the cross-border drug trafficking network.
