Anti-US Slogans Dominate Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Funeral as Speaker Targets Donald Trump

Tehran (Rajeev Sharma): The funeral ceremony of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei witnessed strong anti-American rhetoric on Sunday after a speaker made controversial remarks about US President Donald Trump, drawing loud responses from a massive crowd gathered in Tehran.

During the ceremony, poet Mohammad Rasouli addressed mourners and delivered a speech that included sharp criticism of the United States and Israel. At one point, he referred to President Trump while questioning why he was still alive, prompting sections of the audience to respond with chants against the US and Israel.

Thousands of mourners filled the streets of the Iranian capital, carrying portraits of Khamenei, waving national flags and displaying banners expressing support for Iran’s leadership. The gathering was marked by repeated political slogans, reflecting the tense relationship between Tehran and Washington.

The funeral, attended by one of the largest crowds seen in Iran in recent years, comes after Khamenei’s death during the recent conflict involving Iran. The ceremony is widely viewed as a significant political event, taking place at a time when the country is entering a new phase of leadership under Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

Political analysts believe the large public turnout is intended to demonstrate national unity as Iran faces continuing regional and international challenges. The event also comes amid uncertainty over the future of diplomatic engagement between Iran and the United States.

Meanwhile, President Trump was participating in events marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, highlighting the contrast between celebrations in Washington and the highly charged political atmosphere in Tehran.

Talks aimed at easing tensions between Iran and the United States remain on hold following the recent conflict. Diplomatic observers say discussions are expected to resume only after the official mourning period concludes, while concerns over regional stability and security continue to dominate international attention.
