Delhi (Rajeev Sharma): Delhi Police has claimed a major breakthrough in its fight against child trafficking after dismantling an alleged inter-state network involved in the illegal movement of infants. The operation resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects and the rescue of five babies, officials from the Central District said.
The action followed a detailed investigation into the activities of a suspected trafficking syndicate believed to be operating across state borders. Acting on specific inputs, police teams carried out coordinated raids that led to the detention of multiple individuals allegedly connected to the racket.
Authorities said the rescued infants have been placed in safe custody, where they will receive medical care and protection while officials work to establish their identities and locate their biological families. Child welfare agencies have also been brought into the process to ensure the children receive appropriate assistance.
Investigators believe the operation has exposed a larger criminal network, and further inquiries are underway to identify additional people who may have been involved in facilitating the alleged trafficking of children.
Police officials are examining documents, financial transactions, digital records and communication links recovered during the investigation to trace the network’s operations and determine its reach across different states.
The 12 arrested individuals are expected to face legal proceedings under relevant laws dealing with child trafficking and organised crime. Authorities indicated that more arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation progresses.
The Delhi Police described the operation as a significant achievement in protecting vulnerable children from exploitation and reaffirmed its commitment to taking strict action against those involved in crimes targeting minors.
Officials added that a detailed briefing on the case and the progress of the investigation will be shared separately, while efforts continue to uncover the full extent of the alleged trafficking syndicate.
The successful rescue of the five infants has been welcomed as an important step in safeguarding children’s rights and strengthening the fight against organised human trafficking networks operating across the country.
