Noida (Rajeev Sharma): A new chapter in Uttar Pradesh’s aviation landscape began on Monday as Noida International Airport at Jewar welcomed its first scheduled commercial flight, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and faster travel options for passengers across the region.
The inaugural IndiGo service arrived from Lucknow before continuing its journey to Bengaluru, officially marking the launch of regular passenger operations at the newly developed airport. The commencement of services is expected to significantly reduce travel time for residents who previously relied on Delhi’s airports.
Passengers travelling on the first day expressed enthusiasm about the convenience offered by the new facility. Many noted that reaching Jewar Airport was far easier due to smoother road access and reduced traffic congestion compared to routes leading to Delhi.
Travellers also praised the airport’s modern infrastructure and passenger-friendly environment, describing it as a welcome addition to the country’s expanding aviation network.
The opening of the airport holds special significance for the local community as well. Farmers whose land was acquired for the ambitious project welcomed the beginning of operations, viewing it as a milestone that would generate employment opportunities and accelerate development in the region.
In a gesture acknowledging their contribution, a delegation of around 170 local farmers, including women representatives, is scheduled to undertake a special inaugural journey to Lucknow. The group is expected to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to express gratitude for the state’s infrastructure initiatives and the successful completion of the airport project.
With commercial flights now operational, Noida International Airport is expected to emerge as a major aviation gateway for western Uttar Pradesh, strengthening regional connectivity, supporting business growth, and contributing to the area’s long-term economic transformation.
