Washington (Rajeev Sharma): US President Donald Trump has announced that a long-awaited agreement between the United States and Iran has been concluded, describing it as a significant diplomatic achievement that could reshape the security landscape of West Asia and restore confidence in global maritime trade.
In a message posted on his social media platform, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened for unrestricted commercial navigation and that the naval restrictions imposed by the United States in the region would be lifted immediately. He stated that the move would allow international shipping and energy supplies to return to normal operations.
The development comes after intensive diplomatic efforts involving multiple countries aimed at reducing hostilities in the region. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed that negotiations had produced a breakthrough, saying both Washington and Tehran had agreed to permanently halt military operations and move toward a diplomatic resolution.
Sharif acknowledged the mediation efforts of regional partners, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, and expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to long-term peace and stability across the Middle East.
Officials indicated that technical discussions and procedural meetings would take place before the accord is formally implemented, laying the groundwork for its execution.
