Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The Punjab Government has announced a change in the scheduled public holiday for Eid-ul-Zuha, commonly known as Bakri Eid, shifting the observance from May 27 to May 28, 2026.

The revised order was issued by the Department of Personnel on Monday following an updated notification from the Government of India regarding the festival holiday calendar.

Under the new schedule, all Punjab government departments, public sector undertakings, boards, corporations and educational institutions will remain closed on Thursday, May 28.

Officials stated that the decision was taken to align the state holiday with the revised directions issued at the central level. The order was released under the authority of senior government official K.A.P. Sinha.

The notification also mentioned that the holiday has been declared under the provisions of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, making it applicable to banking institutions and financial establishments throughout the state.

Government offices and institutions have been instructed to update their official calendars and ensure implementation of the revised holiday schedule across Punjab.

The change is expected to help maintain uniformity in the observance of Eid-ul-Zuha celebrations and administrative functioning.
