Gunfire Near White House Leaves Suspect Dead, Security Tightened After Fresh Shooting Scare

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): Security agencies in Washington were placed on high alert after a shooting incident unfolded near a White House security checkpoint on Saturday evening, leaving the suspected gunman dead and one bystander injured.

According to initial information released by the US Secret Service, the suspect allegedly pulled a firearm from a bag and opened fire near the heavily guarded perimeter close to Pennsylvania Avenue. Officers stationed at the checkpoint immediately retaliated, striking the attacker during the exchange.

The suspect was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was later declared dead. Officials identified him as 21-year-old Nasire Best. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the incident and whether the suspect acted alone.

A civilian standing nearby was also hit during the chaos. Investigators are still working to confirm whether the injury was caused by the suspect’s gunfire or shots fired by responding officers. The injured person was taken for treatment, though officials have not yet disclosed the severity of the wounds.

President Donald Trump was present inside the White House complex when the shooting took place but was reported safe and unaffected by the incident. Secret Service officials confirmed that no officers were injured.

Journalists working within the White House press area reported hearing multiple rapid gunshots before being instructed to take immediate shelter. Several correspondents described the moment as tense and chaotic as security personnel quickly locked down surrounding sections.

Visuals from outside the White House later showed emergency responders, heavily armed officers and evidence markers spread across the sidewalk as investigators examined the scene. Medical equipment and forensic materials were also visible near the checkpoint area.

The FBI has joined the probe, while senior federal officials said further details will be released once the forensic review and witness interviews are completed.

The incident marks yet another alarming security breach involving gunfire near the White House in recent weeks, raising renewed concerns over security threats surrounding the US President’s residence.
