Vancouver ( Richa Walia): Mark Carney told a business audience in Vancouver that British Columbia will play a major role in his government’s “Build Canada Strong” agenda, emphasizing economic growth, infrastructure development, and stronger partnerships with Indigenous communities.
Speaking to business leaders and stakeholders, Carney sought to ease tensions surrounding pipeline development and energy projects by promoting what he described as a “positive agenda” focused on cooperation rather than division. The Prime Minister said Ottawa intends to work closely with the Government of British Columbia and First Nations communities to advance major projects while respecting environmental concerns and Indigenous participation.
Carney highlighted British Columbia’s importance to Canada’s trade, energy, technology, and natural resource sectors, noting that the province is positioned to be a key driver of national economic growth and international investment. The remarks come amid ongoing discussions around pipelines, energy infrastructure, and resource development projects in Western Canada, issues that have often sparked debate between provincial governments, environmental groups, and industry stakeholders.
According to Carney, the federal government’s approach will prioritize long-term economic stability, sustainable development, and stronger collaboration with local communities as part of its broader nation-building strategy.
