Haryana Government Launches Free Sanitary Napkin Initiative Under Menstrual Hygiene Mission

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): The Haryana government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the health and hygiene of women and adolescent girls across the state. Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao announced on Friday that the provincial administration is actively implementing its Menstrual Hygiene Mission under the Mahila evam Kishori Samman Yojana. This initiative is designed around the core themes of cleanliness, respect, and empowerment, aiming to ensure better healthcare access and dismantle the social taboos often associated with menstrual health.

Under this welfare programme, women and adolescent girls belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category within the age group of 10 to 45 years will be provided with free sanitary napkins. The Health Minister emphasized that the primary goal of the project is to spread critical awareness regarding menstrual hygiene, improve the overall health standards of women, and encourage them to lead a dignified life. Local administrative bodies and relevant departments have been directed to make special efforts to ensure that the benefits of this scheme reach the final individual in the queue, particularly targeting remote areas.

Eligible residents who wish to benefit from this initiative must submit their applications online through the designated state portal by the deadline of May 20, 2026. In addition to the online registration system, individuals can visit their nearest Anganwadi centres to obtain detailed information about the programme and access the distribution facilities. Minister Rao urged all eligible women and girls to take advantage of the scheme to safeguard their well-being, while instructing department officials to ensure maximum reach and transparency in distribution.
