Rajeev Sharma :- A crucial meeting of the Union Council of Ministers is likely to be held on May 21 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. All Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State with independent charge and other Ministers of State are expected to attend the meeting, sources said.
The meeting is likely to focus on reviewing the performance of various ministries and departments, besides assessing the progress of major government schemes and welfare programmes being implemented across the country.
Cabinet Expansion May Take Place in June
Political circles in the national capital are also abuzz with speculation over a possible Cabinet reshuffle ahead of the Modi 3.0 government completing two years in office. The present government was sworn in on June 10, 2024.
According to sources, a Cabinet expansion or reshuffle could take place during the second week of June. Several ministries are learnt to be under review, and organisational as well as political considerations may play a role in the exercise.
Fuel Prices, Savings Likely to Figure in Discussions
The issue of rising fuel prices and the need for economic prudence may also come up during the deliberations. In recent public rallies held on May 10 and 11, Prime Minister Modi had urged citizens to use fuel judiciously and avoid unnecessary expenditure.
The remarks assume significance as petrol and diesel prices were increased by Rs 3 per litre on May 15, triggering concerns over inflation and the rising cost of living.
