Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh has put an end to rumours about entering politics, saying he has no intention of stepping into public office and remains fully committed to his career in entertainment.
The clarification came after reports suggested that the singer-actor could consider joining politics following growing public calls for him to take on a leadership role in Punjab.
Responding to the speculation through social media, Diljit made it clear that politics is not his path and said his purpose is to entertain audiences, adding that he is content with the work he is doing.
The buzz had intensified after Jaago Punjab Manch, a forum comprising social activists and retired Army officers, urged him through a newspaper appeal to enter public life and use his popularity to serve Punjab.
The appeal described Diljit as a youth icon capable of bringing fresh leadership, but the singer wasted little time in distancing himself from the idea.
Diljit’s statement comes during a period when he has remained at the centre of both admiration and controversy due to his ongoing Aura 2026 world tour.
The singer has recently faced criticism from different sections, particularly after pro-Khalistan protesters attempted to disrupt some of his concerts in Canada.
At a recent performance in Calgary, Diljit addressed the criticism directly, telling the crowd that he often finds himself attacked by both sides.
He said some people in India accuse him of supporting Khalistan, while certain extremist groups abroad call him overly aligned with India.
Reflecting on the criticism, he told fans that although such reactions are confusing, he believes he is following the right course.
The controversy gained momentum after Diljit reportedly objected to a small group displaying Khalistan flags during one of his Canadian shows earlier this month.
Despite repeated attempts to protest at his events, turnout remained limited. Similar demonstrations outside his Winnipeg concert drew little public support.
For now, Diljit appears focused solely on his performances and global tour, making it clear that while his voice may resonate widely, it will remain on stage rather than in politics.
