Haryana Fugitive Nabbed After Gunfight with Chandigarh Police

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh) : A joint operation by the Chandigarh Police led to the arrest of a wanted criminal from Haryana after a brief but intense exchange of gunfire in the city on Tuesday morning.

The accused, Mukesh Golu, who hails from Gohana, was intercepted by the police following a tip-off about his movement into Chandigarh. Officials said he was allegedly planning to carry out a criminal act.

Acting on the information, a team from the Operations Cell tracked and surrounded the suspect near the Sector-25 rally ground. As police attempted to apprehend him, the accused reportedly opened fire in an attempt to escape.

Police personnel retaliated, leading to a short gunfight during which around five rounds were exchanged. The accused sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the encounter and was subsequently overpowered by the team.

He was shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital Sector 16 for treatment, where his condition is said to be stable.

Investigators recovered a firearm from the spot along with multiple empty cartridges. Officials confirmed that the accused was already wanted in previous cases and had been under surveillance.

Authorities are now probing his activities and possible connections, while further legal proceedings are underway.
