US Pauses Strike on Iran, Donald Trump Extends Ceasefire Citing Pakistan’s Intervention

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): In a significant development amid rising tensions, US President Donald Trump has said that planned military action against Iran has been temporarily put on hold to allow space for diplomatic engagement.

In a statement, Trump said the decision followed a request from Pakistan’s top leadership, including Army Chief Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who urged Washington to delay any offensive move.

The US president noted that Iran’s internal situation appears divided, which has made it difficult for Tehran to present a unified negotiating stance. He said the pause would give Iranian leaders time to formulate a consolidated proposal for talks.

Despite holding back on direct military action, Trump made it clear that US forces would remain on alert. He confirmed that the existing blockade would continue and that the military has been instructed to stay fully prepared for any developments.

The ceasefire, which was nearing its end, has also been extended, with Trump stating that it will remain in effect until Iran submits its proposal and negotiations reach a conclusion—whether successful or otherwise.

The move is being viewed as an attempt to keep diplomatic channels open while maintaining pressure on Tehran. Pakistan’s role in urging restraint highlights its involvement in efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.

There has been no official reaction from Iran so far. Analysts say the situation remains fluid, and much will depend on whether Tehran responds with a clear proposal in the coming days.
