Massive fire destroys slums in Lucknow’s Vikas Nagar; CM Yogi orders swift relief

Lucknow (Gurpreet Singh): A devastating fire broke out in a slum cluster in the Vikas Nagar area of Lucknow on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2026. The blaze, which spread rapidly due to high winds and the presence of flammable materials, gutted dozens of shanties, leaving numerous families homeless. Fire tenders from multiple stations across the capital were rushed to the site, and firefighters battled for several hours to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby residential colonies.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took immediate cognizance of the tragedy, directing senior administrative and police officials to reach the spot and supervise the rescue and relief efforts. The Chief Minister has emphasized that providing medical care and temporary shelter to the affected residents is a top priority. While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, initial reports suggest a short circuit or a domestic gas cylinder leak may have triggered the inferno. No fatalities have been officially confirmed as of Wednesday night, though several residents reportedly sustained minor injuries and are receiving treatment.

This incident follows another significant fire earlier this week in Hardoi district, where a massive blaze erupted at the ‘City Motor Workshop’ on Monday night. Fire Officer Mahesh Pratap Singh reported that four fire tenders were required to control the rapidly spreading fire, which threatened several CNG-powered vehicles stored inside the garage. Fortunately, quick action by the fire department prevented any casualties and allowed for the safe evacuation of equipment and personnel from the vicinity. Investigations into the causes of both the Lucknow and Hardoi fires are currently underway.
