Amritsar Police Foil Suspected Terror Bid, IED Recovered; Foreign Links Under Probe

News Alert

Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): A major security scare was averted in Punjab after the Amritsar Rural Police detained a man allegedly carrying an improvised explosive device (IED), officials said on Friday.

The arrest followed actionable intelligence inputs about suspicious movement in the region. Acting swiftly, police teams intercepted the suspect, who was reportedly attempting to dispose of the explosive after collecting it from the Ramdas belt. The device was seized on the spot, and a criminal case has been registered.

Early investigations have pointed towards possible cross-border connections, with suspicion falling on Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence. Sources within the investigation revealed that the accused’s mobile phone contained several Pakistan-based contact numbers, indicating communication with handlers through internet-based channels.

Officials are also examining the likelihood that the explosive material was transported into Indian territory using a drone, a method increasingly flagged by security agencies in recent times.

The accused is currently under interrogation as authorities attempt to map out his network and identify others who may be involved. Central intelligence agencies are expected to assist in the probe to uncover any wider conspiracy.

Investigators are additionally looking into a possible connection between this case and the recent grenade attack at the Bhindi Saida police station. Police maintained that the investigation is ongoing and further revelations are expected in the coming days.
