SGPC Marks Guru Har Rai’s Gurta Gaddi Day as Environment Day, Urges Devotees to Plant Trees

Gurpreet Singh :- The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee celebrated the Gurta Gaddi Day of Guru Har Rai as Environment Day, organising a series of religious and awareness activities at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, associated with Sri Darbar Sahib. The occasion was marked by the culmination of an Akhand Path, followed by devotional kirtan and ardas, with the congregation also listening to the hukamnama from the sanctum.

Addressing the gathering, Sikh clergy highlighted Guru Har Rai’s deep connection with nature, recalling how he established lush gardens at Kiratpur Sahib to promote environmental harmony. They emphasised that the Guru’s teachings remain highly relevant today, especially in the context of growing ecological concerns.

As part of the observance, SGPC officials and staff planted saplings in the Guru Ka Bagh परिसर between the Diwan Hall and the langar complex, symbolising a commitment to environmental preservation. The committee reiterated its annual appeal to the Sikh community to plant more trees and contribute actively towards protecting nature. A large number of devotees and officials participated in the event, pledging to follow the Guru’s message in both spirit and action.
