Derabassi (Gurpreet Singh): An attempted dacoity at a factory in the Bhagwanpur Industrial Area of Derabassi late Sunday night has raised fresh concerns over security in the region’s industrial belt. The incident was reportedly foiled after members of a night patrolling team from the local industrial association intervened in time.
According to a letter sent to Derabassi Superintendent of Police Bikramjit Singh Brar by Gurjeet Singh Kohli, president of the Derabassi Small Scale Industries Association, the attempted robbery took place at M/s Balaji Packaging between around 11:30 pm and midnight. The association stated that the alertness of its night patrol team prevented the miscreants from carrying out the crime.
The industry body has expressed serious concern over what it described as repeated criminal attempts in the area, alleging inadequate policing and insufficient night-time surveillance in the industrial zone. In the letter, the association warned that such incidents suggest that criminal groups may be becoming increasingly emboldened.
Industrialists also pointed out that the latest attempt appears similar to a recent incident in which a group of around 10 to 12 armed individuals allegedly tried to rob another factory in the same area. Members of the association suspect that the same gang could be operating repeatedly in the industrial cluster.
The association said that during a previous meeting with police officials, assurances had been given that those involved in earlier crimes would soon be identified and arrested. However, the latest incident has heightened anxiety among business owners and workers in the area.
Calling the situation serious, the association has urged the police to intensify investigations, strengthen night patrolling and ensure that those responsible for the attempted robbery are arrested quickly.
Industrial representatives said the safety of factories and the confidence of businesses in Derabassi depend largely on effective law enforcement and timely action against criminal elements. Police officials have yet to release a formal statement regarding the incident.
