Eight Held in Multi-State Operation Over Alleged Online Support to Terror Groups

News Alert

Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Delhi Police have detained eight individuals in a coordinated operation across Tamil Nadu over allegations of spreading propaganda linked to Pakistan-based extremist organisations and assisting anti-national networks.

The arrests were made following intelligence inputs about suspicious social media activity and possible logistical support to terror elements. Those taken into custody include Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid and Mohammad Ujjal, among others.

According to officials, two suspects were apprehended in Uthukuli, three in Palladam and one in Thirumuruganpoondi, while the remaining were picked up from nearby locations. Investigators said the accused had been employed in the garment industry and were allegedly using forged Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities.

During searches, police recovered eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards. The devices have been sent for forensic analysis to determine the extent of online communications and any links to extremist handlers.

Preliminary findings indicate that the group had been sharing content on social media platforms that allegedly endorsed banned organisations operating from Pakistan. Authorities also suspect the accused may have conducted reconnaissance in several cities, prompting a deeper probe into their movements and contacts.

Investigators are examining possible connections between the arrested individuals and the appearance of “Free Kashmir” posters in parts of Delhi in recent weeks.

All eight suspects are being brought to the national capital for further interrogation and legal proceedings. Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and additional detentions cannot be ruled out as they examine digital evidence and financial trails.
