California (Rajeev Sharma): Authorities in Northern California are continuing their search for 57-year-old Avtar Singh, a Tracy resident who was reported missing under suspicious circumstances earlier this week.
According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were alerted to a possible abduction on the night of February 17 after receiving a missing person complaint from the 16000 block of West Grant Line Road. Investigators believe Singh may have been taken against his will.
Surveillance video reviewed by officials shows Singh near a white sport utility vehicle in the company of three unidentified individuals shortly before he disappeared. Authorities suspect he entered the vehicle under duress, though they have not released additional specifics about the incident or potential suspects.
Singh is described as being about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing close to 200 pounds. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing light-toned traditional Sikh clothing. Law enforcement agencies have urged residents in the surrounding areas to check any private security or doorbell camera footage that could assist in piecing together his last known movements.
The case has sparked concern among civil rights groups and members of the Sikh community nationwide. The Sikh Coalition said it is closely monitoring the situation and is coordinating with local Sikh leaders to support the family and assist authorities. The organization called the incident alarming and appealed to the public for cooperation.
Officials have yet to announce any arrests or identify persons of interest. They are asking anyone with relevant information to contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation remains active.
Community members continue to hope for Singh’s safe return as search efforts remain underway.
