New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Sundar Pichai on Wednesday said India is already undergoing the kind of transformation that could produce the next world-leading artificial intelligence company from within the country, citing the rapid evolution of its startup ecosystem and strong developer base.
Speaking during his visit to India for the India AI Impact Summit, Pichai said the shift is already underway when asked what needs to change for the “next Sundar” to remain in India and build a globally competitive company from here.
“I mean, it’s already changed. India is producing extraordinary companies,” he said, pointing to homegrown startups such as Flipkart and Oyo as examples of firms that have scaled successfully.
Pichai praised the country’s “high developer energy,” particularly in technology hubs like Bengaluru, and described India’s entrepreneurship ecosystem as thriving.
He also highlighted advances in artificial intelligence, noting that companies like Sarvam are developing local AI models, indicating that cutting-edge innovation is taking root domestically.
Pichai said he sees no major impediments to India building globally competitive AI firms and added that the country is well positioned to lead in the AI era.
