Teen Sensation Yuvraj Samra Smashes Record-Breaking T20 World Cup Century in Chennai

Chennai (Gurpreet Singh): Canada opener Yuvraj Samra etched his name into the record books on Tuesday, becoming the youngest player to score a century in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The 19-year-old reached the three-figure mark in just 58 balls during Canada’s group-stage clash against New Zealand at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.

At 19 years and 141 days, Samra broke the previous record held by Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad, who was 22 years and 127 days old when he scored a century against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2014. Samra also became the first cricketer from an Associate nation to register a hundred in the men’s T20 World Cup.

The young opener brought up his half-century in 36 deliveries before accelerating against an experienced New Zealand bowling attack. He stitched together a commanding 116-run opening partnership with Canada captain Dilpreet Bajwa, laying a solid foundation for his side.

Samra’s ton was also only the second century of the 2026 edition of the ICC tournament, following Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka’s earlier three-figure effort.
