New Delhi, Feb. 11 — Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday addressed the Lok Sabha, outlining key priorities of the Union Budget 2026-27 and emphasizing employment generation through sector-focused investments.
Responding to discussions on the Budget, Sitharaman said the government plans to establish medical hubs across several states, a move aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure while creating substantial job opportunities. She noted that the initiative would not only improve access to quality medical services but also boost local economies through allied industries and services.
Highlighting the government’s employment strategy, the Finance Minister said special attention would be given to labour-intensive sectors. By directing resources toward industries that generate large-scale employment, the government aims to support inclusive economic growth and enhance livelihood opportunities.
Sitharaman also announced continued assistance to states for the development of textile parks. The initiative is expected to promote manufacturing, increase exports, and provide jobs, particularly in regions where the textile industry forms a key part of the local economy.
Detailing the financial outlay, the Finance Minister stated that the Budget projects a total expenditure of ₹53.47 lakh crore for the financial year 2026-27. She further said that ₹25.44 lakh crore will be transferred to states as part of tax devolution in FY27, reinforcing the Centre’s commitment to cooperative federalism and empowering states with greater fiscal resources.
The Budget, she added, seeks to balance growth, employment generation, and fiscal responsibility while ensuring sustained support to state governments and priority sectors.
