Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): The decision was taken following a resolution adopted by the SGPC’s executive committee, which observed an increase in AI-generated videos and content circulating on social media platforms that allegedly undermine Sikh beliefs and traditions. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami approved the formation of the panel to formulate legal and technological strategies to curb such misuse.
Providing details, SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh said instances of AI-driven content targeting Sikh religious dignity have grown noticeably in recent times. Keeping this in view, the executive committee decided to set up a dedicated sub-committee comprising legal professionals and specialists with expertise in artificial intelligence and internet technologies.
The expert panel includes Dr Harjinder Singh Sandhu (USA), Harmit Shah Singh (UK), Dr Sarabjot Singh (UK), Dr Sarpreet Singh from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr Gurpal Singh of Khalsa College, Patiala, Dr Jagdeep Singh Mallhi of Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, and Dr Satinderpal Singh, also from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana. SGPC System Administrator Karmveer Singh has been appointed as the coordinator of the sub-committee.
Pratap Singh said the panel will focus on identifying and countering AI-generated content that distorts or disrespects Sikh religious values on digital platforms. The sub-committee will also engage with major AI technology firms to explore systems for monitoring, reporting and preventing the spread of such objectionable material.
Reiterating its stand, the SGPC said safeguarding the sanctity of Sikh religious symbols, beliefs and traditions in the digital sphere remains a top priority, and proactive measures will be adopted to deal with emerging technological challenges.
