Mumbai (Rajeev Sharma): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior NCP figure Ajit Pawar was killed on Wednesday after the aircraft he was travelling in met with an accident while attempting to land in Baramati. The incident occurred earlier in the day and prompted an immediate emergency response from local authorities.
People present near the landing area reported that the aircraft encountered trouble moments before touchdown, leading to a crash landing. Pawar, who is 66 years old, was promptly evacuated from the site and taken to a hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
The deputy chief minister had departed from Mumbai earlier in the morning and was scheduled to attend a public engagement in Baramati later in the day. His travel plans were part of routine political engagements.
The Pune Rural Superintendent of Police confirmed the incident, stating that police teams and senior officials were rushed to the scene immediately after receiving information about the crash. Security and medical personnel remain deployed in the area as assessments continue.
Authorities are yet to determine the exact cause of the accident. Further updates are expected as officials complete preliminary checks and medical evaluations.
