Himachal CM Orders Suspension of Assistant Professor in Dharamshala College Student Death Case

National Times Bureau :- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has taken serious note of the death of a college student in Dharamshala and ordered strict action against the accused assistant professor, leading to his suspension from service.

Following the Chief Minister’s directions, the Higher Education Department constituted a high-level inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the student’s death. According to official orders issued by Director of Higher Education Dr. Amrit Sharma, the committee will examine allegations related to harassment, sexual misconduct, ragging, and caste-based remarks. The panel has been instructed to submit its report within three days. The inquiry will be headed by Additional Director of Colleges Dr. Harish Kumar.

Acting on these orders, the Education Secretary suspended the geography assistant professor named in the case. During the suspension period, the professor’s headquarters have been fixed at the Directorate of Education in Shimla. Meanwhile, the accused has obtained interim bail from a district court until January 12, with the court directing him to fully cooperate with the investigation.

As part of the ongoing probe, a police team visited Dayanand Medical College (DMC) in Ludhiana on Saturday, where the student had received treatment. Police officials collected medical records related to the case and recorded statements of the hospital’s medical staff.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and impartially, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry and the police investigation.
