Chandigarh, December 22: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said that the state government is continuously working to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure to ensure quality medical facilities for citizens across Haryana. He said that fully equipped hospitals are being developed at the district level, and so far, 10 modern hospitals have been dedicated to the public, while work on 22 more hospitals is currently underway.
The Chief Minister made these remarks while responding to a question raised by MLA Maman Khan during the Question Hour of the ongoing winter session of the Haryana Assembly.
Saini said the newly dedicated hospitals are equipped with advanced facilities including CT scan, ultrasound, MRI, and well-established laboratory services, ensuring comprehensive treatment for patients. He asserted that the government’s focus is on providing affordable and accessible healthcare to every citizen without forcing them to depend on private institutions.
Criticising previous governments, the Chief Minister said they neither prioritised public healthcare nor worked towards expanding medical facilities. As a result, people were left at the mercy of the private sector, leading to widespread exploitation. He pointed out that before 2014, the state used to get only four specialist doctors annually, whereas the number has now risen to nearly 200 due to sustained efforts by the present government.
Highlighting improvements in medical education, Saini said the number of MBBS seats in Haryana has increased significantly. While the state had only 700 MBBS seats in 2014, the figure has now crossed 2,500, reflecting the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system from the grassroots level.
He further stated that government hospitals today are providing free medicines and diagnostic test facilities to patients. To enhance capacity, hospitals have been upgraded systematically, with 30-bed hospitals expanded to 50 beds, 50-bed hospitals to 100 beds, 100-bed hospitals to 200 beds, and 200-bed hospitals upgraded to 400 beds. Alongside infrastructure expansion, the number of medical colleges in the state has also been increased.
The Chief Minister added that apart from treatment facilities, special emphasis is being laid on maintaining cleanliness in hospitals to ensure a better and safer environment for patients.
